Mosaic Project #2

This time I wanted something a little bigger that would take me a few trips to Bisque Art.
So I went with a larger mirror - Please keep in mind I don't consider myself very artsy! :)

After Night one:

After Night two: (there is dirt on the mirror part)

More to come soon!

2010 Goals - a Month or so late

My very good friend did this on her blog and I am 'stealing' this topic from her.
My Goals for 2010:
My Goals for Focused Videography:
1. Do a better job organizing Focused Videography's accounting (off to a great start thanks to Organize for Success!)
2. Develop and stick to a marketing plan for the business.
3. Book 7 weddings for the 2010 Wedding Season! 2 more to go! Know a bride to be? Have 'em call me!
4. Prioritize an equipment  'Wish List' and make enough money to buy some of the items on it.

Personal Goals:
1. Save enough money to have a decent down payment on a house.
2. Develop a work out plan and try to stick to it!
3. Run in 1 of the 3 Free to Breathe 5Ks without stopping.
4. Find and pursue a hobby.
5. Educate more people on the truths of Lung Cancer.
6. Document my family tree and make a personal documentary video on the project - including interviewing my grand parents.

Really Excited!

So I promise this won't be ALL about lung cancer but I have actually been successful at getting auction items and I am pretty darn proud of myself....THANK you to those who have said YES to my requests! For what you may ask.. .GREAT QUESTION!

The 3rd Annual Evening of Hope Gala benefiting the North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership.  This year we are adding a Live/Silent Auction and we are getting some pretty cool items!  If you would like to come you can purchase your 'ticket' online for $75 per person. This includes heavy appetizers, music, speakers, and the great feeling you have to know you are helping raise money for a GREAT cause - the #1 cancer killer (Lung Cancer!)
The website is: http://nationallungcancerpartnership.org/index.cfm?page=Evening_of_Hope - it has all the event details and a list of the great auction items!

Here is the Save the Date! Hope to see you there!

Happy Valentines Day!

Pretty flowers from my Bo!  I love him! He knows me so well.. more than just red roses, and a little of my favorite color in there too! (yellow!)

Carson's Visit!

My nephew, Carson, has been asking to stay the night for a while.  It finally worked out and we had a great time.. besides playing a lot of Super Mario on the Wii, we made brownies, played 'hide and seek' and Bo taught him a little boxing!  I can't believe he is already 6 years old!  He is growing up way too fast!

Bo teaching Carson....

Looks like Carson got a Knock Out!

Lung Cancer Sucks...and so does the stigma...

So as many of you know I do a lot with Lung Cancer- My new job is Manager of Operations & Communications for the NC Lung Cancer Partnership... but why?  Most of my close friends know that in 2005 my dad passed away from Lung Cancer... and for those who don't know me so well..yes he smoked.. but NO he did NOT deserve lung cancer, no one deserves that awful disease.

My dad had a bad habit, yes.. but just because people have bad habits doesn't mean they deserve bad things to happen to them. It has actually been found that 60% of people who develop lung cancer NEVER smoked or quit decades ago.  Don't get me wrong, Don't smoke... but next time someone is diagnosed with lung cancer you know.. ask how they are first before asking the question they always get: "well, did you smoke?" That's like asking someone who just got seriously injured in a car accident " Well were you speeding? Then it was it your fault."

The goal for my organization is to raise awareness and raise funds for lung cancer research - Lung cancer is the number 1 cancer killer -- it kills more people annually in the u.s. than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined - and yet it is the least funded.

My dad passed away 5 years ago in April and I know I have to make a difference for his disease.. not only for lung cancer patients like my dad, but for their daughters. So they have their fathers there to see them graduate college, walk them down the aisle at their wedding or be a grandfather to their children.  No one deserves lung cancer and no one deserves to lose a parent from lung cancer.

Thanks for letting me get on my soap box! :)

Hobby, because Bo said so!

A few months ago Bo told me I needed to get a hobby.  I have a habit of turning my hobbies into work...volunteering w/ the NC Lung Cancer Partnership - now work.. (not that I don't love it, but it's no longer a hobby). He has baseball in the spring and has started a Jiu jitsu classes. SO I am taking my loving boyfriend's advice and finding a hobby. I thought about taking a class - cooking, photography, some artsy type class - and I still might but I have decided to try doing tile mosaics.  I got inspired by a table that my friend Ludi and her roommate were working on during my vacation to Reunion, so I figured, why not try.  Oh and, while I'm at it I thought I might as well blog about it.

Here is my first attempt. I went to Bisque Art.  It was great, I picked out my piece and they provided the tile, glue and sent me home with the grout to do once everything dried, all for around $20.

Before the grout:
And after the grout:

It may not be the best one I will do, but momma will like it, because mommas just have to like things their kids make!  I have looked up some patterns I'm going to try next. Stay tuned!
